During the time we spent in Hambantota, a widow came to the house of Roy’s Uncle Roni.   With her came the nine year old Azra and her three year old brother.

Their Father died on January 22^nd, 2011 due to cancer and the widow lives with her children in one room at the house of her late husband’s parents.  The widow’s brother-in-law and his wife live in the same house, also.

Her own Mother is widowed herself and there is no way to move in with her.  We asked her about her well-being at her in-laws and she spoke about her nice sister-in-law.  What about her mother-in-law?  Her agonized smile and the tears running down her cheeks were answer enough.

She is at the complete mercy of her in-laws.  Five sets of parents of Azra`s classmates help out with the costs of the school material as she has no income at all.

We would be happy to find a sponsor for Azra.  On our next visit we will go to their home to get a closer look at their environment and we will try to help the Mother to help herself.
