The declaration of war by the government in January 2008 came not as a surprise.  The government troops had been bombarding the Tamil homeland in the north for a month.  It was no longer possible to call this a strategy of retaliation.

Irrespective of the time of our arrival, the Banana Lady is always at her stall selling bananas.  The town had built new market stalls close to the bus station and the reception was as always very friendly and very loud.

Our wish to find a sponsor for the kindergarten had become true and we would like to thank Mrs. Hofer very much.

Fatima’s sponsor had cancelled her sponsorship at the end of 2007.  During the two years she had not received one single personal response from the girl and we were able to understand her disappointment. 

We were in for quite a surprise at Sifaya’s house:  she was seven months pregnant!  How come?  She had always told us that she did not want any more children.
